GO TO: Lapidary Slab and Trim Saw Coolant Oil. Forgive me if I go on a little rant first: I have had enough of junk and unsuitable oils being sold as acceptable for rock slab and trim saw lubricants. Mineral and vegetable oils are NOT suitable lubricants, they were never meant to be lubricants for anything. They will burn when heated, leaving a impossible to remove sticky residue all over the inside of your saw. And coating your working parts and blade in the process. And WATER, EVEN WITH COOLANT ADDITIVES, WILL EVENTUALLY RUST YOUR BLADES AND SAW. There's a reason why all the major saw manufactures specifically state that using water or water based lubricants in their saws VOIDS THEIR WARRANTY. Actual lubricating oils commonly used by some people, such as Pella A, Allmag, and similar, are toxic, period. They also aren't commercialy available anymore. You are not supposed to get them on your skin or breathe the vapor, which you will do every time you cut a rock. Even worse are used transformer oils that some tout as being the best: if there aren't the known cancer causing PCBs in them, they are toxic as all heck. If there are PCBs, you shouldn't even get near them. They are even classified as toxic waste and must be disposed of at a hazardous waste facility. Of course you never know how old the oil is so you have no idea if it has PCBs or not. And they all stink to boot. So, here is what I am offering: Clean, straight from the barrel Shell Superla oil, it's the perfect grade for slab saw lubricant, with the exact viscosity needed to cool your blade, and doesn't get too hot or cause unnecessary wear on your blade and moving parts. It's an odorless, 1. You can drink it if you want to (not that I would). Just ask my not- too- bright labrador retriever Buttafass. He drank from an open bucket I had in the shop (never do that again!). Although he caused a huge mess in the house (I'll leave that to your imagination LOL), he didn't even get sick (the vet confirmed this). I am buying by the 5. NO ONE sells it by the gallon or 5 gallon bucket (and I mean no one, I took a while figuring that out). Something SIMILAR but not the same is the ROC- Oil you see for sale at least online for at least $3. That's a blantant ripoff, they are buying it in bulk for less than a quarter of that price. I doubt it's the optimal viscosity for slab saws. My price is $1. 8/gallon. My cost to ship one gallon is too high (as in, double the price per gallon) so you must pick it up here at the shop, I am near Clackamas and Oregon City OR. I'll give you directions when I get the Paypal notice, or email me at the address above. You can pay via Paypal below or bring a cashiers' check, money order, or cash. Order here: IT'S BACK! Superla Coolant Oil - $1. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CONTAINERS. I don't have any to spare! Highest Grade Cerium Oxide Lapidary Polish. For years I had been using a 5 lb. It produced far superior results to the typical lapidary polishes for me. When I ran out a couple years ago and went to find some more I saw a lot on Amazon and lapidary supply websites advertized as . To make it easy for you, low grade cerium oxide is tan (medium grades) to reddish (very low grade) in color. It works great for tumbling, but I refuse to use it for my lapidary work where I demand as close to a . BTW I don't like to keep secrets so if you are interested I can give you some tips on what to use and how to work with it. Low grade cerium is comparatively cheap, you can get it in bulk quantity for $2. You can pay way too much to dealers and especially the Amazon ripoff sellers. The cheap white powders being passed off as . It's dirt cheap in bulk quantity, and therefore the sellers are making a couple thousand percent profit on a few ounces of it by lying and passing it off as cerium. My source told me that true optical grade, used by telescope, precision optics, military suppliers, and the silicon chip industries, is over 9. And to boot the particle size matters depending on the material being polished, so all grades are not equal. He suggested an optimal size for quartz and so I bought in bulk (becase I had to LOL). If you aren't familiar with the rare earth metals biz (cerium is probably the most used of them), China cornered the market a decade ago by dumping cheap cerium (and other rare earth elements essential to the silicon chip industry) onto the market to drive other countries out of production. It worked and they now control the price; 2 years ago cerium spiked at unbelieveable levels. There's a good (but dated) article about it here. So I had to talk someone I trusted out of 1/2 lb. Anyway now I have a decent quantity of 9. I'm passing it on for a little over my cost because it's the . If you can find it at all this is a lot less than you'll pay for an ounce. If you use it correctly a little bit goes a very long way. Optical Grade (9. Pure) Cerium Oxide Polish - $6. Please note: I have a. Thundereggs. Click on the name of any material for a.
